The NDA government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar won the trust vote in the Bihar Assembly on Monday. 129 members voted in favor of the confidence motion presented by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, while not a single vote could be cast due to the absence of opposition members during voting. 78 from BJP, 45 from JDU, 4 from HAM and one independent MLA Sumit Singh along with three RJD MLAs Chetan Anand, Neelam Devi and Prahlad Yadav also voted in favor of the confidence motion of Nitish government.

Earlier, voting was also conducted on the no-confidence motion brought to remove the Speaker of the Assembly. In this, with 125 votes in favor of the no-confidence motion and 112 votes against it, the resolution to remove Assembly Speaker Awadh Bihari Chaudhary was passed with a majority. Earlier, amidst the demands of the opposition, JDU’s Vice President Maheshwar Hazari, who was sitting on the chair, made the members of both the parties stand up one by one and count them.

When the debate was going on in the House against the Speaker, during the debate, three RJD MLAs, Chetan Anand of Shivhar, Neelam Devi of Mokama and Prahlad Yadav, MLA of Suryagarha, came and sat in the middle of the ruling party. At the last moment, angry JDU MLA Dr. Sanjeev Kumar also came towards the Yes side. This brought the support of 125 MLAs in support of the ruling party’s proposal in the House.

Deputy Speaker Maheshwar Hazari, sitting on the chair, first informed the House that the no-confidence motion was accepted by voice vote. But opposition members demanded voting. The Vice President tried twice but when the opposition did not agree, the voting process started. The ruling party was counted first. After this the opposition members were counted. Finally the Deputy Speaker told the House that the no-confidence motion against the Speaker has been passed with majority.
