Farmers Protest: There may be shortage of diesel and gas in Punjab due to farmers movement

While traffic jam has arisen in Delhi due to the farmers’ movement, the possibility of severe shortage of diesel and gas has increased in Punjab. According to news agency ANI, due to the farmers’ movement, fifty percent less diesel and twenty percent less gas could be sent to Punjab.

Farmers tried to remove the barricade, police released tear gas shells

Protestors participating in the farmers’ Delhi Chalo protest march tried to break the barricade set up at the Shambhu border in Ambala on Tuesday, after which the Haryana Police fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. There was chaos near the Shambhu border when farmers used tractors to remove barriers made of cement. These barriers were placed as part of the barricade by the Haryana Police on the Ghaggar River bridge to stop the protesting farmers from moving forward.

A spokesperson of Haryana Police said, stones were pelted at Haryana Police by the protesters. Tear gas shells were released to control the situation. During this time many soldiers were also injured and were admitted to the hospital. There was a blanket of smoke in the air due to police firing several tear gas shells.

What is the demand of farmers

Farmer leaders are adamant on legal guarantee of MSP for crops, which is one of their main demands. Apart from legal guarantee for MSP, farmers are also demanding implementation of Swaminathan Commission recommendations, pension for farmers and farm labourers, farm loan waiver, withdrawal of police cases.
