wb news : After rebuke from the Calcutta High Court, West Bengal Police has withdrawn the supplementary charge sheet in an old murder case against suspended Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan. Sheikh Shahjahan is accused of conspiring to attack the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Armed Forces (CAPF) teams in Sandeshkhali on January 5. Case related to murder of three BJP workers in Sandeshkhali

On April 1, the justice termed the supplementary charge sheet as contempt of court and warned of issuing necessary rules against the state police. This case is related to an old case related to the murder of three BJP workers in Sandeshkhali, in which the state police had filed the chargesheet without including Shahjahan’s name. Members of the victims’ families later approached a single-judge bench of Justice Jai Sengupta objecting to the non-inclusion of Shahjahan’s name in the charge sheet.

An interim stay was put on the investigation being conducted by the state police.

After this, the bench had recently put an interim stay on the investigation being conducted by the state police. However, when the case came up for hearing on April 1, Justice Jai Sengupta said that the state police had filed a supplementary charge sheet in the case while the interim stay order was in force. Following this, Justice Jai Sengupta expressed his displeasure over the turn of events and questioned how the state police could file a supplementary charge sheet after the court stayed the investigation. He had directed the state police to immediately withdraw the supplementary charge sheet or face contempt of court charges.
