WB: After the accident at Burdwan station, Eastern Railway ordered to demolish 60 water tanks which had fallen into disrepair.

Taking a lesson from the recent incident of water tank breakage at Burdwan station of Howrah division in West Bengal. Eastern Railway (Eastern Railway, It has been decided to demolish all the water tanks located in the stations and station premises. According to this decision, water tanks made of RCC concrete along with iron will also be removed from the platform or station premises and shifted to another place. This information was given by Eastern Railway in this regard. Kaushik Mitra, Chief Public Relations Officer of Eastern Railway, said that Eastern Railway considers providing safe travel to the passengers as its first responsibility.

Modern water tank will be built by demolishing old water tanks

For this reason, we have decided that all the water tanks located in the stations or station premises of Eastern Railway will be removed from there and shifted to vacant places. Shri Mitra said that there are a total of 60 water tanks in Chuki Eastern Railway station and station premises. In such a situation, it will take time to break them. This work will be completed within the next one year. The aim of Railways is to demolish these years old water tanks and build a modern water tank at a safe place.

Oldest tanks in Asansol division

Eastern Railway is considered an important zone of Indian Railways. In such a situation, any scheme or Payal project in Indian Railways is started from stations like Howrah, Sealdah. According to the information received, such old iron or concrete water tanks are located in all the divisions of Eastern Railway, but maximum eight stations of Asansol division have such old water tanks on the platforms. Similarly, there are such tanks at three stations in Howrah division, in which there is a very big water tank on platform number 23 in the New Complex of Howrah station.

Similarly, there is a water tank outside platform number 23, it is made of iron. Both these tanks are quite old. There is a tank located on the platform of the station in Malda division. Overall, a total of 12 water tanks are operational on the platforms of Eastern Railway stations. There are 48 such old water tanks in Eastern Railway, which are located in various station premises. Of these, seven are in Sealdah, 23 in Asansol, 14 in Howrah and 4 in Malda division.

The work of dismantling old tanks will be completed within a year

According to the information received, along with 12 iron and concrete tanks located in the stations of the zone, 48 water tanks made of concrete located in the station premises are more than 60 years old. A railway official said that in place of the old water tanks, new water tanks will be made of technologically advanced RCC. Besides, the tanks will be made as per contemporary standards. It is noteworthy that last Wednesday (December 13), four people lost their lives when a part of the water tank located on platform number 2-3 of Burdwan station of Howrah division collapsed. Many people are still undergoing treatment in hospitals.
