Sickle Cell Anemia: Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his social media post and wrote, Congratulations on manufacturing a medicine for the prevention of sickle cell disease. He further wrote, PM Modi had launched the Sickle Cell Anemia Eradication Mission for the prevention of sickle cell anemia in 2023. He further wrote, the medicine will prove to be a boon especially for the tribal brothers, sisters and children. He further wrote, we will soon free India from sickle cell.
Company ready to make two crore medicines in a month
On the manufacturing of sickle cell anemia drug under Make in India, Sandeep Jain, MD, Acums Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited, said, we are fully prepared for production (sickle cell anemia drug). We can produce 2 crore bottles per month.
Sickle cell drug stable even at room temperature
The company making medicine for sickle cell said, 80% of the population of this disease (sickle cell anemia) is in Africa and India. The MD of the company said, some studies have shown that if its medicine is not available at a low cost then we cannot eliminate this disease. After research we have developed a medicine. The price is around 1% (of the global price). The medicine can remain stable even at room temperature. Earlier, patients had to come to the hospital to get the medicine, but this medicine can be given wherever they are. The medicine can be stored at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. The MD of the company said, the price of the medicine can be around Rs 700-800.
What is sickle cell?
Sickle cell is a disease related to anemia. In which there is anemia in the sick person. Every person has red blood cells. Which is round in shape, flexible and soft. But when this disease occurs in a person, it takes the shape of a sickle. Due to which the blood flow in the arteries is blocked. After that, red blood cells gradually start dying and there is a lack of oxygen in the body.

Problems like lack of blood, effects on lungs, heart, eyes, bones and brain, pain in joints, fever, halt in growth of the body etc. start occurring.
