PM Modi launches PVTG Development Mission from Jharkhand, population of 28 lakh will benefit

PM Modi Jharkhand Visit: On the day of Tribal Pride Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on Jharkhand tour, launched schemes worth about Rs 24,000 crore for the development of the population of about 28 lakh Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG). Nine ministries of the Government of India will work together to provide benefits of the schemes to PVTG families. This will benefit 75 PVTG groups living in 18 states and union territories of the country. PVTG tribes living in 22,544 remote and inaccessible areas located in 220 districts across the country will be developed and empowered.

Plan to provide complete coverage to tribals

The PVTG Development Mission launched by the Prime Minister aims to provide complete coverage to the tribals. Tribal communities living in remote areas will be provided with basic amenities like road and telecommunication connectivity, electricity, safe housing, clean drinking water, sanitation, better access to education, health and nutrition and sustainable livelihood opportunities. They will be given the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Sickle Cell Disease Eradication, TB Eradication, 100 percent vaccination, PM Surakshit Matritva Yojana, PM Matru Vandana Yojana, PM Nutrition and PM Jan Dhan Yojana.

Development work will be done through the state government

The PVTG Development Mission is for the identified particularly vulnerable tribal groups only. The scheme is flexible to enable each state to focus on any developmental activity for PVTGs. Works like housing, land distribution, land development, agricultural development, cattle development, connectivity, establishment of non-conventional sources of energy for lighting for the PVTG community will be done through the state government. The State Government will also be free to undertake any other new activity for social security or comprehensive socio-economic development of the PVTG.

2.52 lakh PVTG in Jharkhand

Jharkhand The population of PVTG is 2.52 lakh. There are eight different tribes of PVTG groups in the state. These include Asur, Birhor, Korwa, Birjia, Sauria, Paharia, Mal Paharia, Parhiya and Sawar tribes. The government has planned for comprehensive socio-economic development of the PVTG community while preserving its culture and heritage. At present, many types of welfare schemes are being run for the PVTG community living in the state. Every month, 35 kg of free food grains are being delivered to the PVTG family at their doorstep. Scholarships are being provided to students of the community. Special health centers and residential schools have also been opened for them. Separate reservation has also been made for the PVTG community in jobs.
