PM Modi Jungle Safari: Prime Minister Narendra Modi enjoyed a jungle safari in Karnataka’s Bandipur Tiger Reserve this morning. He has reached Chamrajnagar in connection with the program organized on the occasion of completion of 50 years of Project Tiger. During the jungle safari, Modi wore striped safari clothes and a hat. It is said that he covered a distance of about 20 kilometers during the safari in the tiger reserve.

Bandipur Tiger Reserve is located partly in Gundlupet taluka of Chamarajanagar district and partly in HD Kote and Nanjangud talukas of Mysuru district. Modi tweeted- Spent the morning in the beautiful Bandipur Tiger Reserve and got a glimpse of India’s wildlife, natural beauty and diversity.

After reaching the Melukamanahalli helipad, the Prime Minister traveled by road to the Forest Department’s reception center at Bandipur, where he paid homage at a nearby Forest Martyr’s Memorial, and then left for a safari in a Forest Department jeep. Modi shared pictures of the safari on his Twitter account, in which he can be seen standing in an open jeep with a camera and binoculars.

He also shared pictures of elephants, langurs, deer and bison. According to the state forest department, a national park was created on February 19, 1941 by a government notification covering most of the forest area of ββthe erstwhile Venugopal Wildlife Park. According to the department, this National Park was expanded in 1985, increasing its area to 874 square kilometers and was named Bandipur National Park. In 1973, Bandipur National Park was brought under ‘Project Tiger’.

After this, some adjacent reserved forest areas were merged into the sanctuary. At present, Bandipora Tiger Reserve is spread over an area of ββ912.04 square kilometers. Bandipur National Park is an important part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.

To its north-west is the Rajiv Gandhi National Park (Nagrahole) of Karnataka, while to the south is the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary of Tamil Nadu and to the south-west is the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary of Kerala.

This sanctuary was once the private hunting ground of the erstwhile Maharaja. According to the tourism department, Bandipur National Park is also one of the last refuge of the endangered Asian wild elephants.

Apart from the two famous residents (tiger and elephant), the national park is home to several other endangered species, including bear, gaur, Indian rock python, jackal, crocodile and four-horned antelope.
