Lok Sabha Election 2024: In the second phase of Lok Sabha elections, voting will start from 7 am in 88 constituencies of 13 states and union territories. The remaining five phases of Lok Sabha elections will continue till June 1 and counting of votes will take place on June 4. The Election Commission (EC) said that more than 16 lakh polling officers have been deployed at 1.67 lakh polling stations for more than 15.88 crore voters.

34.8 lakh voters will cast their vote for the first time

The voters include 8.08 crore men, 7.8 crore women and 5,929 voters of the third gender. There are approximately 34.8 lakh voters who will cast their vote for the first time. Additionally, there are 3.28 crore youth voters in the age group of 20-29 years. Keeping the heat in mind, the Election Commission has extended the voting time at many polling stations in four constituencies of Bihar. Voting on Betul seat in Madhya Pradesh has been rescheduled for the third phase due to the death of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate.

1202 candidates are in the fray in the second phase

There are 1202 candidates in the fray in the second phase, of which 1098 are male, 102 female and two belong to the third gender. At least three helicopters, four special trains and about 80,000 vehicles have been deployed to transport election and security personnel.

Heat wave forecast in states

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a heat wave warning for West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and parts of Uttar Pradesh during the next five days. According to the Meteorological Department, red alert has been issued for West Bengal and Odisha and orange alert for some parts of Bihar and Karnataka. The Meteorological Department said that high humidity may increase the problems of people in Tripura, Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Assam, Meghalaya and Goa. According to the Meteorological Department, strong winds will blow in some parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on Friday and light rain is expected, which can definitely provide some relief from the hot weather. The Meteorological Department said that heat wave conditions have persisted in Odisha since April 15 and in West Bengal since April 17.
