Lok Sabha Election 2024: Lok Sabha elections are round the corner. While political parties are engaged in vigorous campaigning, the Election Commission is also working hard for fair and peaceful voting. In this series, the Election Commission has held a big meeting today i.e. on Wednesday regarding law and order and security in the 18th Lok Sabha elections. Chief Secretaries of all states and Union Territories, DGP, Home Ministry, Defense Ministry and representatives of other departments participated in the meeting. In the meeting, the Commission discussed misuse of money including election rigging and vigilance on borders.

Election Commission held a meeting with officials

In the meeting, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has directed officials of all states and union territories to keep a close watch on suspicious activities. He also said that all officials should take special care that there should not be any lapse regarding security in the elections. He said that officials should ensure that the elections are conducted in a fair and peaceful manner. Let us tell you that along with Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu also attended the meeting.

Negligence will not be tolerated – Election Commission

The Election Commission is busy preparing for the Lok Sabha elections. The Commission has said that special care is being taken to ensure that voting takes place in a fair and peaceful environment. In Wednesday’s meeting, the Commission said that strict monitoring will be maintained on inter-state and international borders. According to media reports, the Commission has said that any kind of negligence regarding security in elections will not be tolerated. According to the report, the Commission has said that action will be taken against the negligent officers.

The Commission has given many guidelines in the meeting.

Seal interstate border on polling day
Excise Commissioners of Border States/Union Territories should ensure investigation.
Authenticity of permits, especially surprise checks of liquor shops
Timely collection of licensed weapons.
Special surveillance on absconders, history-sheeters, involved criminals

Adequate security cover to political officials/candidates

Preventing movement of illicit liquor, cash, drugs across interstate and international borders.
Strengthening surveillance by installing CCTV cameras at check posts.
Joint checking by police, excise and traffic
Strict surveillance at helipads, airports, bus stations and railway stations
Strict action against liquor and drug lords.
