Former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren sent to 3-day ED remand by PMLA court

In the land scam case, former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has been sent to 3-day ED remand by PMLA special judge Rajeev Ranjan. The lawyer of the Enforcement Directorate had demanded 4-day remand of Hemant Soren from the court. Hemant Soren’s lawyer opposed giving him further ED remand in the court. Said that the entire interrogation of Hemant Soren was to be done in 10 days. There is no need to interrogate him further. But, the special judge ordered to send the former CM of Jharkhand to ED remand for three days.

Hemant Soren was arrested in land scam case

After the arrest of Hemant Soren in the land scam case, the special ED court had handed over his remand to ED twice. Both times the ED was given 5-5 days time to interrogate Hemant Soren. Hemant Soren was arrested by ED on the night of 31 January after seven to eight hours of interrogation. He was last presented in the court on 7 February. The court had sent him to custody for 5 days.

Supreme Court refuses to hear Hemant’s petition

Hemant Soren challenged the arrest in the High Court. Later he went to the Supreme Court and filed an appeal in the High Court that he wanted to withdraw his case. However, the Supreme Court refused to hear Hemant Soren’s petition and asked him to go to the High Court.

ED seeks time to file reply on amendment

Since Hemant Soren’s lawyer had not informed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) about this petition, the High Court said that the petition cannot be heard without informing the defendant party. After this, information about this case was given to ED on behalf of Hemant Soren’s lawyer. The court had given time till February 9 to the ED to file its reply.

Hearing on Hemant Soren’s petition in High Court on 27th

His criminal writ petition was heard in the High Court on 12 February itself. ED’s counsel told the division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice S Chandrashekhar that it should be given time to respond to the amendment. On this, the division bench of the Acting Chief Justice fixed February 27 for the final hearing.
