Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday. In this letter, he has demanded PM Modi to conduct the decennial census of 2021 in the country as soon as possible and also asked for a comprehensive updated caste census, on the other hand, Rahul Gandhi has given the top BJP leader the 2011 caste- challenged the release of census data in the public domain. In the letter, Kharge said that the UPA government had conducted a Socio Economic and Caste Census (SECC) during 2011-12, but the data could not be published even though the Congress and other MPs voted against your government in May 2014. After arrival, there was a demand to release it.

Essential for social justice and empowerment programs

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said- In the absence of an updated caste census, I am afraid that a reliable data base, much needed for meaningful social justice and empowerment programs especially for OBCs, is incomplete. This census is the responsibility of the central government. Not only this, he said further that- I would also like to tell that regular census was to be done in 2021, but it has not been conducted yet. We demand that this should be done immediately and a comprehensive caste census should be made an integral part of it.

Rahul Gandhi claimed

Addressing an election rally in Karnataka’s Kolar, Rahul Gandhi claimed that the central government has only 7 per cent other backward castes, Dalits and tribals as secretaries and demanded removal of the 50 per cent cap on reservation. Not only this, he further said that in 2011, the UPA did a caste-based census. It has data of all castes. Prime Minister, you talk about OBCs. Present that data to everyone. Tell the country how many OBCs, Dalits and Adivasis are there in the country.

Insult to OBC

Addressing the election rally, Rahul Gandhi said that- Please release the caste census data so that the country can know what is the population of OBCs, Dalits and tribals. If you don’t do this, it is an insult to OBCs. Also, remove the 50 percent cap.

Jairam Ramesh tweeted

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh gave information about Kharge’s letter to PM Modi through a tweet. While giving information, he told that- Now everyone should get the same rights as per the population. Let us tell you that the Congress has demanded caste-based census many times before.
