Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu Indirectly giving a message to China, he said that today’s India is not what it was in 1962, but the India led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In the presence of Shah, Khandu also said that perhaps this is the first time that a Union Home Minister has come to a place so close to the Chinese border. Amit Shah was here yesterday to launch the Modi government’s ambitious Vibrant Village Program (VVP) to ensure all-round development of villages along the northern border. China had objected to Shah’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh yesterday.

This is not the India of 1962, it is of Narendra Modi

Pema Khandu said- This is not the India of 1962. Today, it is Narendra Modi’s India, it is Amit Shah’s India. Khandu said this amid thunderous applause from the people present in the meeting, most of whom were people who live near the China-India border. India faced aggression from China in 1962 and fierce fighting took place between the Indian Army and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China in Kibithu and neighboring Walang. Khandu’s comment also assumes significance because just a few days back, China had announced Chinese names for 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh. China claims Arunachal Pradesh as the southern part of Tibet.

Whole hearted support for all round development of the state

Chief Minister Pema Khandu said that the Modi government is wholeheartedly supporting the all-round development of the Northeast, especially Arunachal Pradesh. As part of the vibrant village programme, the BJP-led central government will provide Rs 4,800 crore for the development of villages along the northern border from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh. Shah had said that the objective of the program was to stop migration of people, develop villages as tourist attractions, generate employment and usher in an era of all-round development.

Identification of 2,967 villages in 46 blocks of 19 districts

VVP is a centrally sponsored scheme under which 2,967 villages in 46 blocks of 19 districts along the northern border in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Ladakh have been identified for comprehensive development. In the first phase, 662 villages including 455 villages of Arunachal Pradesh have been identified. Officials said the VVP will help improve the quality of life of residents in the identified villages and encourage people to stay at their native places, thereby preventing migration from these villages and enhancing border security.

Nine micro hydro projects were also inaugurated

The district administration, with the help of appropriate mechanisms at the block and panchayat level, will prepare action plans for the identified villages to ensure 100 percent saturation of central and state schemes. The areas identified for the development of villages include road connectivity, drinking water, electricity including solar and wind energy, mobile and internet connectivity, tourism centres, multi-purpose centers and health care infrastructure and wellness centres. At the function, Shah also launched nine micro hydroelectric projects of the Arunachal Pradesh government, which are being built under the Golden Jubilee Border Lights program for the benefit of those living in border areas. Apart from the local people, the electricity generated from these mini hydro projects will also be given to the establishments of the Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
