Agra: Old man declared dead on paper reached office with ‘I am alive’ pamphlet, DM reprimanded officers

When he inquired at Vikas Bhawan, he got information that the old man had been declared dead on government papers. After visiting several officers and offices, the old man reached the District Magistrate’s office with the pamphlet “I am alive”. After the matter came into limelight through media, the District Magistrate took cognizance and reprimanded the concerned officers and summoned them. Along with this, he was instructed that the mistake of declaring the person dead while he was alive should be immediately corrected and pension for the elderly should be started. This effort of the old man to prove himself alive on paper is being discussed everywhere. After the initiative of the District Magistrate, it will now be possible for the elderly to get pension. 70 year old Dinanath Yadav of Agra is a resident of Nagla Hansraj Mauza Dharaira of Etmadpur area. He says that he does farming and for the last two years he was receiving old age pension from the government. His pension suddenly stopped in March this year. To know about this he reached the village secretary’s office. But, he did not get the correct information. In such a situation, he reached Vikas Bhawan of the district. Where he came to know that due to the actions of an officer, Dinanath had been declared dead in the government papers and due to this his pension was withheld. The elders were very upset by this.

Been making rounds of government offices for eight months

Dinanath, who has been making rounds of Agra officials for eight months for restoration of old age pension, said that for this he lodged his complaint in the concerned block secretary office. But, he was not heard. After this, he visited Vikas Bhawan about two-three times. Even after searching many government offices, Dinanath’s problem could not be resolved for the last 8 months and he has not been able to get his pension.

Village Secretary declared dead on paper

In such a situation, when there was no hearing, he took special measures to warn the officers. He reached the District Magistrate’s office in Agra Collectorate on Saturday after getting the pamphlet printed saying “I am alive” and carrying his problem. As soon as they saw the pamphlet in his hand, people surrounded him and started knowing about his problem. On this, Dinanath told that Gaurav Pathak was posted on the post of Village Secretary in Block Etmadpur. They declared Dinanath dead during verification. Due to which his pension stopped. Since then he has been running around to declare himself alive on paper. But, no one took his problem seriously. Later, on the initiative of the District Magistrate, he could be heard.
