World Milk Day 2023: 5 lakh liters of milk required in Jamshedpur, supply only three and a half lakh litres.

Despite the entry of big to small companies and private people in milk production, till now there is a shortage of about 1.5 lakh liters of milk daily in Jamshedpur city and surrounding areas. If we look at the statistics of Rural Development Department, a population of about 20 lakh lives in the district. In this context, about 5 lakh liters of milk is required daily in Jamshedpur. But only about three and a half lakh liters of milk is being supplied here. According to the officials of the Cow Development Department, according to the Indian environment, 240 ml milk is required per person per day. According to this, the city needs 5 lakh liters of milk per day. Presently milk of Sudha Dairy, Amul, ITC, Medha and other companies is available in Jamshedpur city. Out of this, Sudha Dairy supplies maximum milk. Sudha Dairy supplies about 1.50 lakh liters of milk every day, Amul Dairy about 50 thousand liters, Medha Dairy about 20 thousand liters and local level traders supply about 85 thousand liters of milk.

Status of milch cattle in the district

According to the Animal Husbandry Department, the total number of cows of advanced breed in the district is 17379. Of these, only 50 to 60 percent i.e. 10,400 are milch, the rest are in the process of breeding. The number of buffaloes is 24948. Of these, half i.e. 12500 are milch and half are in the process of breeding. The milk production ratio from improved breed cows is 10 liters per cow per day. According to this, one lakh liters of milk is being produced from cows every day. The milk production ratio from buffaloes is three to four liters per buffalo per day. 50 thousand liters of milk is being received daily from buffaloes.

Construction of dairy plant remained limited to foundation stone laying only.

The foundation stone was laid twice by the state government for setting up a dairy plant in Baliguma, Mango. For the first time in 2012, Agriculture Minister Mathura Mahato in the JMM government laid its foundation stone, while for the second time in 2016, former Chief Minister Raghuvar Das laid its foundation stone. But 11 years have passed but it has not started yet. The plant is to be constructed on eight acres, but the work is at a standstill. Under this scheme, about 50 thousand liters of milk was to be produced, which has not started yet.

Up to 90 percent subsidy on purchase of milch animals

Farmers can get additional means of livelihood by applying under Mukhyamantri Pashudhan Vikas Yojana and getting subsidy for the purchase of milch animals. Up to 90 percent subsidy is being given on purchasing milch animals. Its benefit is being given to the cattle farmers of the district.
