The ninth match of the World Cup will be played between India and Afghanistan on Wednesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. This match will start at 2 pm Indian time. The Men in Blue started their campaign with a six-wicket win over Australia in Chennai. In contrast, Afghanistan lost to Bangladesh by six wickets in the match played in Dharamsala. India lost the toss and bowled first against Australia. However, India’s spin bowlers Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah together bowled out the Australian team for 199 runs in 49.3 overs. India did not allow even a single Australian batsman to score a half-century. While chasing the target, three Indian batsmen lost their wickets for just two runs. However, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul made a brilliant partnership and led India to victory. Afghanistan’s performance was poor in the opening match of the World Cup 2023 against Bangladesh. The entire team was all out for 156, only opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz made good contribution to the team. His performance against spin bowling was not as per expectations. After disappointing the batsmen, the team did not perform well in bowling either.

India and Afghanistan have met only once in the ODI World Cup, this was in the World Cup 2019 when both the teams faced each other. Afghanistan was on the verge of a famous victory in the match played in Southampton. However, fast bowler Mohammed Shami’s hat-trick wicket saved Team India from an embarrassing defeat.
