The idea for World Aquatic Animals Day came from the Animal Law Clinic at Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon, USA. The clinic was established in 2007 to provide legal assistance to animals and their owners. The mission of the clinic is to promote the humane treatment of animals and protect their legal rights. The Animal Law Clinic was inspired to create World Aquatic Animals Day after witnessing the devastating impact of human activities on aquatic ecosystems.
