Work is going on to build 15 new government medical colleges in Bihar, 2400 MBBS seats will increase.

Patna. The state government has given a big gift of two new medical college hospitals to the state in a fortnight. The state government has approved the establishment of a new medical college hospital in Saharsa district. Along with this, the Cabinet on Tuesday also approved a new Medical College Hospital for Gopalganj district. Now the work of establishing 15 new medical colleges in the state is in the pipeline. After the construction of these medical colleges, about 1700 additional MBBS seats will be available in the public sector in the state. As of now, there are 12 government medical college hospitals in the state where a total of 1490 MBBS seats are available, along with seven private medical colleges operating in the state, where students are enrolled on 900 MBBS seats.

The health department is working rapidly on the announcement by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to open medical college hospitals in every district of the state. So far, the Cabinet has approved the establishment of a total of 15 new medical college hospitals. The construction of buildings of many of these medical college hospitals is in the final stages. The department is also identifying the posts of medical teachers and non-academic cadre to resume MBBS studies and hospital services in the Government Medical College Hospital. It is believed that a total of 423 posts, similar to the earlier proposed Medical College Hospitals, will be approved by the Cabinet. There will be 135 posts of academic and non-academic cadre of the medical college. Whereas the creation of 288 posts for the Medical College Hospital will be similar to the earlier proposed Medical College Hospitals.

After Saharsa, Gopalganj will be the 15th proposed medical college of the state. Official sources say that the state government is making preparations for admission to at least 150 MBBS seats in every new medical college. Accordingly, human resources and other resources will be deployed. In the new medical colleges, each medical college will have a minimum of 500 beds for the treatment of patients, other than emergency beds.
