Women’s Reservation Bill: President’s seal on Modi government’s ‘masterstroke’, gazette released

President Draupadi Murmu women reservation bill ‘Women Power Salutation Act’ Permission has been granted. With the approval of the President, this bill has become law. After the approval of the President, the Government of India has issued a gazette notification regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill. As soon as this bill becomes law, 33 percent seats in the Lok Sabha and the State Assembly have been reserved for women, that is, out of 543 seats in the Lok Sabha, 181 will be reserved for women. However, there is no clarity on whether this law will be applicable in this Lok Sabha elections or not. The Women’s Reservation Bill was a masterstroke of the Modi government to which the President has given his approval.

Women will now get 33 percent reservation

According to the provisions of this bill, 181 out of 543 seats in the Lok Sabha will now be reserved for women. The provision of reservation will remain in force for 15 years. After that the Parliament will have to decide on extending its period. This is the 128th amendment bill of the Constitution. Under the ‘Nari Shakti Vandanadhiniyam’, there will be no separate reservation system for women of SC-ST category, but out of the seats reserved for SC-ST category, 33 percent will now be reserved for women. There is no provision for separate reservation for OBC women in the bill. They will have to contest elections only on unreserved seats.
