Last year, more than 300 pilgrims had died during the six-mong-long journey. The cause of death of most of them was cardiac arrest. A screening mechanism was made regarding Char Dham Yatra in which pilgrims above 55 years of age had to tell their health history. For example, details of lifestyle diseases like Diabetes, BP etc. were to be given to the pilgrims. Health officials have said that pilgrims who are over the age of 55 and have a pre-existing medical condition have been “advised to abstain from travel, especially if they show symptoms of a pre-existing illness”.
