Jharkhand government has increased the target of paddy procurement in Kharif marketing season 2023-24 from 3.63 lakh tonnes to six lakh tonnes as compared to last year, but till now the date for purchasing paddy from farmers has not been fixed. For the last three years, the government had been starting paddy procurement from December 15. But this time paddy procurement will not start from December 15. Although approval has been received from the Cabinet regarding the purchase of paddy, the resolution has not been issued yet. At present, efforts are being made by the Food Supply Department to purchase paddy. According to departmental officials, after the resolution is issued, the target of paddy purchase has to be decided district wise. Also a paddy purchasing center has to be established. Meanwhile, the winter session of the Assembly is also starting from December 15. In such a situation, officers will be busy. This process may take at least about 10 days to complete. In such a situation, the process of paddy procurement can start from the last week of December or January. The date for purchasing paddy has been fixed by the government as 31st March 2024. If the paddy procurement process starts late, farmers will get less time to sell the paddy.
This time the government will give a bonus of Rs 117 per quintal to the farmers.
This year, the minimum support price for ordinary paddy has been fixed at Rs 2183 per quintal by the Central Government. Whereas for Grade-A paddy, the rate has been fixed at Rs 2203 per quintal. Apart from this amount, farmers will be given a bonus at the rate of Rs 117 per quintal by the state government. In this way, this year the farmers of the state will get a total price of Rs 2300 per quintal on normal paddy and Rs 2320 per quintal on Grade-A paddy. Apart from this, the government will also give incentive at the rate of Rs 60 per quintal to rice millers. The government will spend a total of Rs 70.20 crore on this scheme. The state government has set a target of purchasing six lakh metric tonnes of paddy from farmers this year, out of which 2.30 lakh metric tonnes of paddy will be purchased for the Jharkhand State Food Security Scheme and 3.70 metric tonnes of paddy will be purchased for the centrally sponsored National Food Security Act.
