Fireworks were set off during the ‘Igas Bagwal’ ceremony at the residence of CM Pushkar Singh Dhami to celebrate the rescue of 41 laborers trapped in the tunnel. CM Dhami said, his Diwali came on Tuesday when 41 workers who were trapped inside the tunnel for 17 days were rescued. He said that he is as happy with the exit of the workers as their families are. Dhami said, it was my Diwali, Igas or Dev Diwali when the workers came out. Igas is celebrated ten days after Diwali in Uttarakhand. He said that the workers are like his family. After all they work for us…work for the country.

CM Dhami expressed gratitude to Boukhnag deity

After all 41 laborers were taken out from the tunnel, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude to the Boukhnag deity. When the workers were trapped, the worship of Boukhnag started outside the tunnel.

Dhami decided to review all the ongoing tunnel projects in the state after the accident.

Chief Minister Dhami said that the state government has decided to review all the tunnel projects in the state. The Chief Minister said, many such projects are going on in the state. We have decided to review them. We want development but there should be a balance between ecology and economy. Recently, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had also said that the government will conduct a safety audit of all the under-construction tunnels.

Now how did the accident happen?

It is worth noting that 41 workers were trapped when a part of the four and a half kilometer long tunnel being built on the Chardham Yatra route collapsed on November 12. They were rescued safely on Tuesday after a rescue operation conducted on a war footing.
