Asansol, Shivshankar Thakur: Actor and veteran politician Shatrughan Sinha, famous as Bihari Babu in Indian cinema, is in the news again. Trinamool Congress has repeated him as the party candidate from Asansol Lok Sabha seat. Earlier, due to the resignation of former Union Minister Babul Supriyo, who had won the election from Asansol seat in 2019 on BJP ticket, Trinamool had made Shatrughan Sinha its candidate for the first time in the by-election and he also won the election.
Bihari Babu had never thought that he would ever contest elections from Asansol.
Bihari Babu had never imagined that he would contest from Asansol in this by-election of 2022. Trinamool’s ticket for this by-election had then come to him. He was getting repeated calls to inform about his candidature, but he was not picking up the phone as the number was unsaved. The interesting fact is that this call was being made by none other than Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee herself, popularly known as Didi.
Mamta Banerjee made Shatrughan Sinha decide to contest elections from Bengal
Actually, Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee had made up her mind to let Shatrughan Sinha contest the Asansol by-election on Trinamool Congress (TMC) ticket. But, this was not told to Mr. Sinha. No one had even contacted him before deciding on his name. He could not even imagine that he would have to contest elections in Asansol. But this is what happened.

Then laughing at an interesting incident that happened with him, Bihari Babu Shatrughan Sinha says that one day early in the morning before the Asansol by-election, I got scolded by former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha. He told me a lot on the phone. The matter was about not picking up the repeated calls on my phone. He (Yashwant Sinha) asked why he was not picking up the phone? In response I asked why, is there any problem?

Shatrughan Sinha said that I started wondering from where (Asansol) this announcement was made. After these things, I remained entangled with myself for some moments. Then after some time, calls started coming from friends and well-wishers. Congratulations started pouring in. A round of good wishes started. Finally reached Asansol and entered into battle. Also got victory.
TMC first announced the candidate from Asansol seat
Shatrughan Sinha told in the conversation that this time also before the announcement of Trinamool candidates from Bengal, only his name was announced. He said that the Chief Minister was on strike against the Center regarding the outstanding money of MNREGA. I was also present there with him.
Didi said from the protest stage of Red Road – Shatrughan will contest from Asansol
