When he was arrested by Lalu Prasad Yadav’s government late night from Samastipur Circuit House. After which there was a lot of ruckus by BJP workers.
The date was 22 October 1990 and the place was 1 Anne Marg, Patna. The then Chief Minister of Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav used to live in this bungalow. It was morning and one by one several white Ambassador cars reached there. After some time, DIG (Headquarters) Rameshwar Oraon, posted at the police headquarters, and senior IAS officer Rajkumar Singh (then Registrar-Cooperative) were also called. Lalu Yadav had taken power in Bihar only seven months ago. Vishwanath Pratap Singh was the Prime Minister of India. Vishwanath Pratap Singh was the Prime Minister of India. There was a National Front government at the centre. He had the support of Bharatiya Janata Party. Lal Krishna Advani was the president of BJP and Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the leader of the BJP parliamentary party in the Lok Sabha.
Advani ji had taken out Rath Yatra
Then BJP President Lal Krishna Advani had taken out a Rath Yatra from Somnath to Ayodhya. The Rath Yatra, which started from September 25, was scheduled to reach Ayodhya on October 30. Lalu Yadav had planned to stop this Rath Yatra. For this he had to arrest Lal Krishna Advani. In view of this, a high-level meeting was going on at the Chief Minister’s residence in Patna. DIG Rameshwar Oraon and IAS RK Singh were summoned there for this reason. Chief Minister Lalu Yadav, sitting inside with the officials, was waiting for him.
The arrest plan was kept confidential
When Advani’s chariot was passing through Samastipur on October 23, the then Chief Minister Lalu Yadav had prepared the strategy for his arrest. He told the entire plan to the people present at the CM residence including Rameshwar Oraon, Rajkumar Singh. The officers were told that the work had to be completed without violence. After arresting Advani ji in Samastipur, he has to be taken to Dumka and from there to Masanjore. This plan was kept confidential. This information was given only to those officers who were selected for this operation.
After evening, Rameshwar Oraon and RK Singh had to leave for Samastipur. Lalu ji himself had taken Chief Pilot Avinash Babu into his confidence. Necessary lighting arrangements for night flights were made at Patna airport because there was no provision for night flights there. The helicopter took off late in the evening. The helicopter landed at Patel Maidan located next to the Circuit House in Samastipur.
The telephone was switched down before the arrest.
Before the arrest, a meeting of officials was held at midnight, the telephone exchange was downed so that no one could make calls. The night was passing slowly. Caution was being taken to ensure that the operation does not leak. Meanwhile, Advani ji had fallen asleep after reaching the Circuit House at 2.30 in the night due to being tired.
Advani ji’s arrest
Rameshwar Oraon and Rajkumar Singh knocked on the door of Advani ji’s room at quarter to five in the morning on 23 October. He opened the door himself. He asked who are you guys? After everyone introduced themselves, they told about the warrant for their arrest. Advani ji asked for fifteen minutes time so that he could get ready. The officials told him that if he wanted to take someone with him, he could take him. We had received instructions from the government to provide this facility to Advani ji. On our proposal, Advani ji expressed his desire to take Pramod Mahajan along. After this he was duly arrested.
Advani ji was kept in Masanjore guest house
After this, Advani ji and Pramod Mahajan were taken to Patel Maidan in a vehicle. The helicopter was standing there waiting. The helicopter took off for Dumka. Dumka DC was already informed. After about an hour everyone reached Dumka. From there Advani ji was taken by car to Masanjore Guest House.
Advani’s arrest was a big challenge
Before his arrest, Lal Krishna Advani had reached Patna via Dhanbad, Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Nawada. There was a crowd of about three lakh people at Gandhi Maidan to listen to him. People chant Jai Shri Ram and Saugandh Ram, the temple will be built there as they were raising slogans. After that meeting Advani ji reached Samastipur. There also he addressed the people. Slogans of Jai Shri Ram were raised. There was a crowd of about 50 thousand people with him, who were staying at some places in Samastipur. In such a situation, his arrest was a big challenge. There was a danger of violence breaking out but due to the secrecy of the operation he was arrested without any violence.
