Why is the festival of Basant Panchami celebrated?
The day Goddess Saraswati appeared was Magh Shukla Panchami, hence special worship of Mother Saraswati is done at home on Basant Panchami. Mother Saraswati played Basant Raga with her veena, as a result of which creation gained speech and music. Along with speech, the Goddess gave knowledge and wisdom, which gave the world the light of knowledge. To perform Saraswati Puja, first of all place the idol of Mother Saraswati on a pedestal. Place a yellow, orange or white colored cloth under the seat. Offer yellow or orange flowers to Goddess Saraswati. Then light a lamp and perform the aarti of Goddess Saraswati.
