What is the threat to the aviation industry from 5G signal? The government told

The government said in the Lok Sabha that it has not conducted any study to assess the impact of 5G networks on airline services in the country, but there is a possibility of 5G C-band spectrum interfering with existing radio altimeters installed in aircraft. Is. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has reviewed the studies/actions taken by various countries on the potential interference of 5G C-band signals on radio altimeters installed on aircraft and the risks involved in air travel during the rollout of 5G.

Possibility of interference with the functioning of the radio altimeter

Minister of State for Civil Aviation V.K. Singh said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha that DGCA’s review has revealed that there is a possibility of interference in the functioning of radio altimeters of aircraft due to 5G signals. Singh said that the 5G C-band spectrum is likely to interfere with the existing radio altimeters installed on aircraft.

Advice given to take some measures while installing the tower

V.K. Singh said, to reduce interference of 5G spectrum, manufacturers of radio altimeters are working on developing modified radio altimeters. He said that, measures have been taken across the world to reduce this problem and such measures have been made mandatory in India. Accordingly, Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) have been advised to take certain measures while installing 5G towers around airports.
