“God in Debt”

“Tirupati Balaji”

Once sage Bhrigu wanted to know who was the best among Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh? He went to everyone one by one. Brahma and Mahesh did not even recognize or respect Bhrigu. After this Bhrigu went to Vishnu’s place. Lord Vishnu was resting and Mother Lakshmi was pressing his feet. As soon as Bhrigu reached, he neither said nor listened to anything and hit Lord Vishnu’s chest with his foot. Lakshmi ji was astonished to see all this, but Lord Vishnu held Bhrigu’s feet and said politely, “Munivar! Your tender feet might be hurt. Sorry about that”

Lakshmi ji got very angry at this humility of Lord Vishnu. Angered by Lord Vishnu, she came to Earth and started living in Kolhapur. With the departure of Lakshmi ji, Lord Vishnu felt that his glory and glory had been destroyed and his mind became very disturbed. To find Goddess Lakshmi, he came to earth in the name of Srinivas. While roaming around, reached Bakulamai’s ashram in Venkatachal mountain area. Bakulamai gave him great hospitality. He was asked to stay in the ashram only.

One day a drunk elephant came into the forest. The ashram residents started running here and there in fear. When Shri Niwas saw this, he chased the elephant with his bow and arrow. The elephant got scared and ran away and disappeared into the dense forest. Mr. Niwas was tired of chasing him. He lay down in the shade of a tree on the bank of a lake and took a light nap. After some time, he woke up after hearing the noise and saw that four-six girls were standing around him. Seeing Srinivas awake, she said boldly, “This is the safe garden of our princess Padmavati and men are not allowed to come here. How and why have you come here?”

Before Srinivas could answer anything, his eyes went towards the princess peeping from behind the tree. Srinivas kept staring at Padmavati. He calmed down a bit and said, “Ladies! I didn’t know, I had come here chasing prey. I felt tired and fell asleep, so please forgive me.” Srinivas returned to the ashram but started feeling very sad. One day when Bakulamai lovingly asked the reason for his sadness, Srinivas narrated the entire story of his meeting with Padmavati and then said, “I cannot live without her.”

Bakulamai said, “Don’t dream like this. Where is she, the daughter of the famous Chola King Akashraj, and where are you, a clan-less youth growing up in an ashram?” Srinivas said, “Mother! There is a solution, if you support me then everything is possible.” Seeing the true love of Srinivas, Bakulamai said yes. Srinivas disguised himself as a woman who knew astrology and reached Narayanpur, the capital of King Sky. Hearing her discussion, Padmavati also called that woman to the palace and showed her her hand.

Seeing the princess’s palm line, she said, “Princess! A few days ago you met a young man in your reserved garden. The gaze of both of you met. There is a possibility of your marriage with the same young man.” Padmavati’s mother Dharna Devi asked, “How can this happen?” The astrologer woman said, “Such is the yoga. The planets say that some woman will come herself to ask for your daughter for her son.”

Two days later, Bakulamai actually came to the palace in the guise of an ascetic. He discussed the marriage of Padmavati with his young son. The king recognized Bakulamai in the sky. He asked, “Who is that young man?” Bakulamai said, “His name is Shri Niwas. He is born in Chandra dynasty. Is living in my ashram. Treats me like a mother.”

King Akash thought before answering. After Bakulamai left, Akash called the royal priest and told him everything. The royal priest did the calculations. Then he agreed and said, “Maharaj! Srinivas has divine qualities like Vishnu and it is very suitable for your daughter like Lakshmi.

King Akash immediately sent the marriage horoscope to Bakulamai with his approval. When Bakulamai heard this, she became worried. She said to Shri Niwas, “Son! Till now there was only concern about marriage. Now I am worried about not having money. I go to Varahaswami. Let me ask him what should be done?

When Bakulamai went to Varahaswami with Srinivas and told about the problem of money for Srinivas’s marriage, then Varaha Swami called the eight gods like Digpalas, Indra, Kuber, Brahma, Shankar etc. to his ashram and then called Srinivas and said, “You yourself Tell me your problem.”

Srinivas told the gods, “I want to marry Padmavati, daughter of Chola king Raja Akash. My status is not worthy of a king, I have no money, what should I do?”

Indra said to Kuber, “Kuber! You give loan to Srinivasan for this work.” Kuber said, “I will give the loan but it should be decided when and how it will be returned to him?” Srinivas said, “Don’t worry about it. I will repay all the debts by the end of Kaliyuga.”

Kuber accepted. In the witness of all the gods, a loan letter was written for Srinivas. With that money, the marriage of Shri Niwas and Padmavati took place with great pomp. Then Narad went to Kolhapur and told Lakshmi, “Vishnu has married Padmavati in the form of Srinivas. “Both are living on Venkatachalam mountain.”

Lakshmi ji felt very sad after hearing this.. She reached Venkatachalam straight away. Padmavati, who was engaged in the service of Lord Vishnu, started saying good and bad, “Shrinivas! Vishnu form is my husband. Why did you marry them?”

When both of them started having a verbal war, Shri Niwas felt very sad. He retreated and turned into a stone statue. When both the goddesses saw this, they felt very sad that Srinivas was no longer anyone’s business.

Meanwhile, a voice came from the rock idol, “Ladies, I will continue to fulfill the wishes of my devotees at this place in the name of Venkateswara Swami. I will keep paying the interest on Kuber’s loan with the money offered from him, so both of you do not fight among yourselves for me.

On hearing this speech, both Lakshmi ji and Padmavati bowed their heads. Lakshmi came to Kolhapur and became revered as Mahalakshmi and Padmavati became a stone idol in Tirunachur. Even today, the same fee is charged from the devotees for having darshan of Lord Venkateswara Swamy on Tirumala hill in Tirupati area. He is not worshiped with flowers, sweets etc. but with money. With this money Lord Shri Krishna is paying the debt of Venkateswara Swami Kuber.
