What is ‘4E’ regarding road safety? Nitin Gadkari laid emphasis on strengthening it

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari Has said that road safety is the top priority of the Government of India. Speaking at an event organized by CII, the minister reiterated that the Indian government aims to reduce road accident deaths by 50% by 2030.

What is ‘4E’?

Nitin Gadkari Further said that change in social behavior along with focus on strengthening ‘4E’ is very important to enhance road safety across India. These four ‘E’ are – Engineering (Road and Vehicle Engineering), Enforcement (Enforcement), Education (Education) and Emergency medical service (Emergency Medical Service). He also stressed on cooperation of all stakeholders in enhancing road safety.

The minister reportedly underlined the need to improve the quality of detailed project reports from the industry, particularly focusing on road quality and safety perspectives. Gadkari said, “Engineers will have to take major responsibility in better planning of roads from safety point of view.”

Blackspots should be analyzed

He also said that the industry should analyze the blackspots where maximum accidents are happening and contact the concerned agencies-NHAI, state governments, municipalities and others and even publish those details in newspapers.
