What happened in the hearing on Hemant Soren’s petition in Jharkhand High Court before appearing in ED court?

Before the appearance of former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) working president Hemant Soren in the PMLA court, his petition was heard in the Jharkhand High Court. On behalf of Hemant Soren, a criminal petition has been filed in the Jharkhand High Court against his arrest and ED remand. Hearing on this will now be held in Jharkhand High Court on 27th February.

Hemant Soren’s criminal petition was heard on Monday. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had filed its reply on February 9, according to the Enforcement Directorate’s lawyer. A hearing on this was held on Monday (12 February). Enforcement Directorate sought time to file reply on Hemant Soren’s IA. On this the court fixed the date of 27th February. The final hearing in this case will take place on the same day.

Hemant Soren had filed the petition on the night of 31 January

A petition was filed in the High Court on behalf of Hemant Soren on the night of 31 January. In this he had declared ED’s action illegal. Hemant Soren’s lawyer had said in the appeal that the arrest of his client was wrong. After this, by filing an amendment through IA, Hemant Soren’s remand was also declared wrong.

ED seeks time to file reply to amendment

On Monday, the ED’s lawyer sought time from the court to file its reply to the amendment. A division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice S Chandrashekhar granted time to the ED to file its reply and fixed February 27 for the final disposal.

Hemant Soren has challenged the arrest and remand.

ED’s lawyer told the court that he was not informed about this amendment. Therefore, they should be given time to file their reply to the amendment.
