Huge uproar in Lok Sabha after presentation of Ethics Committee report

After the presentation of the Ethics Committee report in the Mahua Moitra case, a huge uproar started in the Lok Sabha. Due to the huge uproar by the opposition, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned till 2 pm on Friday, within 10 minutes of resuming after one adjournment. When the proceedings resumed after an adjournment, members of Congress, Trinamool Congress and other opposition parties started creating ruckus on the issue of the report related to Mahua Moitra. Members of opposition parties including Congress started raising loud slogans. On this, Presiding Chairman Rajendra Aggarwal requested the creating ruckus members to sit down and said, what happened? Right now the report has been presented only on the table of the House. The House will decide on that. When the uproar did not subside, Aggarwal adjourned the proceedings after a few minutes till 2 pm.

Opposition demands discussion on Mahua Moitra case

Opposition members have emphasized that the recommendations of the committee should be discussed in detail in the House before a decision is taken on expelling Mahua Moitra.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had accused Mahua Moitra of asking questions after taking money.

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has been accused of ‘asking questions for money’. Mahua Moitra was accused by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey. In which he had said that Mahua, at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani, continuously attacked Adani Group and PM Modi in Parliament and raised questions related to this issue. Dubey had alleged that Mahua had received gifts from the businessman in return. Mahua was also accused of sharing the login password of his parliamentary ID with the businessman.

Mahua Moitra said on the Ethics Committee report – We have not received it yet

TMC MP Mahua Moitra walked out of Parliament after the Ethics Committee report was presented in the Lok Sabha. “We have not received it yet,” he said. On media queries, he said, let me have my lunch and come back. Whatever has to happen, will happen after 2 pm.

What happened so far in Moitra case

  • The Ethics Committee, headed by BJP MP Sonkar, in its meeting on November 9 had accepted the report recommending the expulsion of Moitra from the Lok Sabha on charges of ‘taking money and asking questions in the House’.

  • Six members of the committee voted in favor of the report. Suspended Congress MP Preneet Kaur was also included among them.

  • Four opposition members of the committee had given dissent notes on the report.

  • The opposition members had termed the report as a ‘fixed match’ and said that there was not even ‘a shred of evidence’ in support of the complaint of BJP MP Nishikant Dubey which was considered by the committee.

  • If the House votes in favor of the committee’s recommendation, Moitra can be dismissed from the House.
