West Bengal : Bharatiya Janata Party approached the Election Commission on Monday Trinamool Congress (Trinamool Congress) filed a complaint against social media in-charge Debganshu Bhattacharya and accused him of sharing the personal information of BJP candidate Rekha Patra from Basirhat Lok Sabha seat in North 24 Parganas district on ‘X’. On Monday, a BJP delegation along with Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and party’s national general secretary Arun Singh went to the Election Commission here and submitted their memorandum.

The BJP alleged that Devangshu Bhattacharya maliciously posted Patra’s personal information to avail the benefits of the state government’s health scheme. The BJP also urged the Commission to direct ‘X’ to suspend the Trinamool Congress account on the microblogging site for the remaining campaign period and order an inquiry into whether Rekha Patra’s personal information was shared with the West Bengal government. The petition has also urged the Commission to direct Devangshu Bhattacharya to tender an unconditional apology to the BJP candidate from Basirhat for violating Rekha Patra’s privacy and harassing her by making her information public. Along with this, BJP requested to order registration of FIR against Trinamool Congress leader Piyush Panda and ban him from campaigning. BJP has alleged that Panda had made casteist remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an election rally.
