West Bengal: Transport Department gives relief to vehicle owners, now traffic fine will not be a hindrance in taking PUC.

Just before Durga Puja in West Bengal Transport Department (Ttransportation department, had issued a notice, under which instructions were given to issue Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUC) only after the payment of traffic violation fine is cleared. That is, if a driver does not pay the fine for violating traffic rules, he will not be issued a pollution control certificate. After this notification, various transport organizations had written a letter to the Transport Secretary demanding withdrawal of the guidelines on penalty for breaking traffic laws. After this the department officials held a meeting with the organizations. After this, the Transport Department withdrew the issue of adding fine for breaking traffic laws on the concerned portal.

Fine for breaking traffic law now increased five times

This rule was implemented for both commercial and private vehicles. Transport organizations had objected that the fine for breaking traffic laws has now increased five times. In many cases, these drivers do not even know that they have been fined. Earlier in such cases, people had to go to court if fine was imposed. The organization complains that there is no such opportunity in the new guidelines.

It is not mandatory to pay the dues in obtaining pollution control certificate.

The Joint Forum of Transport Operators, the joint forum of bus, mini bus, app-cab and school car operators, has written a letter to the Transport Secretary demanding withdrawal of the instructions. According to the sources of the department, after this, in the meeting held with various organizations, the matter of adding fine for breaking the traffic law on the concerned portal has been withdrawn. As a result, from now on it will not be mandatory to pay the dues for obtaining pollution control certificate.
