West Bengal : Senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party and leader of opposition in West Bengal Assembly Shubhendu Adhikari (Suvendu Adhikari) claimed on Monday that the Election Commission has given permission to the West Bengal government to give ex-gratia amount to the families affected by the storm in Jalpaiguri district on March 31. He alleged that state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee are lying to the people that the state government is not able to provide compensation to the families affected by the storm due to the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct and the Election Commission has issued a penalty for this. Adhikari, leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, posted on social media platform ‘X’ a letter dated April 9 from the Election Commission of India in which the state government’s proposal to give ex-gratia amount to the families affected by the storm has been approved.
