Burdwan/Panagarh, Mukesh Tiwari: Katwa police station of East Burdwan district of West Bengal has arrested a total of seven miscreants, including two female thieves, in the theft case at a jewelery shop in the area adjacent to the Railway Station Road in Agradweep on 6 February. All the stolen jewelery has also been recovered from them. Former Burdwan District Superintendent of Police Amandeep gave this information in a press conference on Saturday.
Theft revealed within 72 hours
SP said that the theft incident was revealed in just 72 hours. This is a big success for the police. SP said that a large number of firearms and ammunition used by these criminals have also been seized. All the arrested accused are members of Badaun gang of Uttar Pradesh. All these miscreants were living in a rented house in Mil Pada area of Katwa. The gang of miscreants includes two women and five male miscreants.
Gold jewelery worth Rs 26 lakh recovered
Police said that on February 6, there was a theft in a jewelery shop in the area adjacent to Railway Station Road in Agradweep. After investigating the incident, the police arrested seven criminals. With the arrest of the criminals, gold jewelery worth about Rs 26 lakh, cash of Rs 1 lakh 66 thousand and silver jewelery have been recovered from the gold shop. Five single barrel pistols, 40 rounds of bullets and sharp weapons have been recovered from the miscreants.
The arrested thieves are from Uttar Pradesh
The arrested thieves are Dashrath Singh, Hakim Singh, Chebiram Singh, Rambabu Singh, Brij Pal Singh, Vasanti Devi Khasua and Meena Devi. All of them are residents of different parts of Uttar Pradesh. For a long time, these people used to commit such criminal cases under the guise of selling blankets on rent in Katwa city. Some of them also sold Kulfi. The gang behind all these businesses was committing many thefts in gold shops in different parts of the state. SP said that apart from Agradweep, these people have also committed criminal incidents in places like Purvasthali of the district, Bharatpur of Murshidabad etc.
