Kolkata Police will deploy 2,500 additional policemen for security across the metropolis. Joint Commissioner (Headquarters) of Kolkata Police, Santosh Pandey said that for security reasons, Red Road has been divided into 17 zones and 125 sectors on Republic Day. 22 Deputy Commissioner rank officers will be deployed for the security of each zone. Apart from this, 42 Assistant Commissioner rank officers have also been given the responsibility of security. Continuous checking is going on in every hotel and lodge of the metropolis. Policemen are continuously searching vehicles at various checkpoints. If any person is suspected, instructions have been given to take immediate action against him.
Anyone spreading unrest will be arrested immediately
Lalbazar sources say that anyone creating any kind of disturbance on Republic Day will be immediately arrested. From Thursday itself, 13 QRT vans will be present in the metropolis, out of which only three QRT vans will be deployed in Red Road. With the help of 10 bunkers and 10 watch towers, policemen will keep an eye on suspicious activities in Red Road and surrounding areas. Apart from this, 12 motorcycle units and seven teams of river traffic police will also be deployed. Policemen will patrol the entire metropolis in 51 PCR vans. Policemen will be deployed at police assistant booths at 10 different places in the metropolis. Eight HRFS teams will patrol the metropolis. Naka checking is being done at 50 places in the metropolis.
There will be strict security from tourist places to market place
Lalbazar sources say that there will be additional surveillance by the police on shopping malls, market places, philosophical places, metro stations and tourist places of the metropolis. Separate policemen in white uniform have been deployed at all places. In case of any kind of problem, common citizens can seek police help by calling number 100.
