West Bengal: Opposition leader calls upon government employees to run Naban campaign

Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Subhendu Adhikari promised full support in the ‘March to the State Secretariat’ i.e. Nabanna campaign to the state government employees who are agitating for increasing Dearness Allowance (DA) at par with the Central Government employees. On Tuesday, opposition leaders reached the protest stage of government employees at Shaheed Minar, where four government employees are sitting on a fast unto death. During this, the leader of the opposition called upon the government employees to further intensify the movement. He told the government employees’ organization that all of you should call for Nabanna Chalo campaign, we are with you. Shri Adhikari assured to be present in any ‘State Secretariat March’ program called by the government employees.

BJP is with the government employees in their movement

Shubhendu Adhikari also gave a stern warning to the state government from the stage that if it takes any punitive action against the state government employees who are protesting for their rights, he will take the fight to the end. He also alleged that since the state government employees generally do not support the corrupt practices of the highest functionaries in the state, the state administration is punishing them by denying them their legitimate dues. The expression of solidarity by the leader of the opposition is significant. Because the Joint Forum has already declared an indefinite strike from January 29, which will continue until the state government gives a definite promise to meet their demands.

DA in the state is 36 percent less than that of central government employees.

They have also threatened that their agitation will intensify if Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee does not meet them personally and give assurance of fulfilling their demands. The Chief Minister had announced four percent additional DA for state government employees in December last year. But even after this, DA in the state is 36 percent less than that of central government employees. In this regard, Sangrami Joint Forum convener Bhaskar Ghosh said that opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari always raises his voice for the interests of government employees, we are grateful to him for his support.
