West Bengal: Master plan necessary for urbanization of suburbs

Famous economist and BJP MLA Ashok Lahiri Assembly Regarding urbanization plans in the state, he said that it is necessary to prepare a master plan for urbanization of not only Kolkata city but also the suburbs of the state. Apart from Kolkata city, small suburbs like Kalyani, Balurghat should also be urbanized, only then the state will develop. Shri Lahiri expressed concern about incidents of encroachment in urban areas. He said that encroachment is a big problem in Kolkata and Howrah city as well as other areas.

Encroachment is the biggest problem in urban areas

Even the national highways are being encroached upon and the role of the state government is indifferent towards it. Earlier the river was visible from Howrah station, but now it is not so. Areas should be monitored with drones every three months, only then encroachment can be removed. State Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Firhad Hakim presented The Howrah Municipal Corporation Amendment Bill 2024 in the Assembly and the BJP MLA made this comment in this regard.

Railway police responsible for encroachment in front of Howrah station

Minister Firhad Hakim said that he did not want anything on this subject. On the encroachment in front of Howrah station, the minister said that the Railway Police is responsible for this, because it does not take any steps to remove the encroachment. The said area is under the jurisdiction of Railway Police. In such a situation, they need to take action.

The Howrah Municipal Corporation Amendment Bill 2024 introduced

Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Firhad Hakim introduced The Howrah Municipal Corporation Amendment Bill, 2024 in the Assembly. This bill was introduced for the development and urbanization of basic facilities in Howrah city. The state government has brought this bill with the aim of improving the roads, drainage system and water supply services of Howrah city.
