West Bengal: ED seeks time from court to give evidence against Sheikh Shahjahan, next hearing on 3 February

An application was filed in the special ED court of Bankshall Court for anticipatory bail of Sheikh Shahjahan, who was missing for 25 days in West Bengal. Sheikh Shahjahan’s anticipatory bail case was heard in Kolkata City Sessions Court on Tuesday. Shahjahan’s lawyers raised the question that why is ED summoning Shahjahan? What evidence do they have against him? In response, the ED told the court that since Shahjahan’s anticipatory bail application was filed on Monday, the ED is not ready for it. He has asked the court for time till Saturday to present evidence against Shahjahan. Hearing this, the judge adjourned Shahjahan’s case till Saturday. Shahjahan’s lawyer told the counter court that in such a situation the court should order ‘no-coercive action’ so that no strict action is taken against Shahjahan till Saturday.

Lawyer’s appeal that strict action should not be taken against Shahjahan till Saturday

Hearing the request of Shahjahan’s lawyer, the judge said that he would not give any such direction. That is, the court directly rejected the argument of not taking strict action against Shahjahan till Saturday. It is noteworthy that Shahjahan had once approached the Calcutta High Court in this matter. When the ED approached the High Court regarding the Sandeshkhali incident, Shahjahan told the court through his lawyer that he wanted to give his statement in the matter. But later Shahjahan withdrew that request. He had filed a case on Monday demanding anticipatory bail. A total of three cases are registered against Shahjahan. According to information received from sources, arresting Shahjahan is not easy, there are thousands of legal complications.
