West Bengal: Court stays single bench order regarding investigation into attack on ED officials

Calcutta High Court West Bengal On Wednesday, a single bench order to set up a joint Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the state police to investigate the attack on Enforcement Directorate officials last month was stayed. Chief Justice T.S. The division bench headed by Shivagananam gave this order on the appeal of ED. In its petition, ED had appealed to get the case investigated only by CBI.

The division bench ordered to stay the instructions of the single bench

On January 5, when a team of ED officials had gone to search the residence of Trinamool leader Shahjahan Sheikh in Sandeshkhali in the alleged ration distribution scam case, they were attacked by a mob, in which three officers of the agency were injured. The division bench ordered a stay on the direction of the single bench. The court directed that the case will be heard again on March 6.

Central agency claims scam worth Rs 10,000 crore

A single bench of Justice Jai Sengupta had directed the formation of an SIT headed by a Superintendent of Police level officer each from the CBI and the state police to investigate the attack. The ED, in its petition, claimed that the state police would not be able to investigate independently as a minister is allegedly involved in the scam. The central agency claims that a scam of Rs 10,000 crore has taken place. The investigation into the attack on ED in Shahjahan Sheikh’s village has been delayed by a month. On Wednesday, the High Court stayed an order related to that case till March 6. The ED team was attacked in Sandeshkhali.
