Weather took a turn: Late night thunder, storm and rain disturbed people’s sleep.

The weather suddenly changed in Dhanbad district on Sunday night. The rain coupled with the strong storm woke people up. At around 1 o’clock on Saturday night, dense clouds started appearing in the sky. A strong storm started with the thunder of clouds. The wind speed has been 50 to 60 kilometers per hour.

People of all classes got troubled due to the dust storm. Especially people living in open places had to face problems. People kept waiting for the storm and rain to stop. People heaved a sigh of relief after the storm stopped around 2 o’clock in the night. According to the Meteorological Department, clouds are coming due to the trough line. It is raining with thunder.

Tree branches broke and fell in the streets of the city. On the way from Dhanbad Police Line to Housing Colony, tree branches have been broken at near the Golf Ground, LC Road, Station Road and other places. Due to the storm, people’s houses and shops were filled with dust. When people came to open the shop in the morning, they found it full of dust.

Items kept on rooftops were blown away

Due to the late night storm, the items kept on the roofs of the houses were blown away. Even the plastic tank on the roof of many people’s houses was blown away. No one’s clothes or other belongings were on the roof. In the morning, people were seen searching for the items kept on the rooftops.

The temperature was 38 degrees

Talking about the weather of Dhanbad district on Sunday, the temperature here was recorded at 38 degrees. The minimum temperature has been around 22 degrees. Due to clear weather, it was sunny since morning. After 11 o’clock the sun started shining. In such a situation, people were seen searching for shade. After evening the sky started becoming cloudy again. According to the weather department, the weather will clear from Monday.

Glass doors of BBMKU Academic Block broken due to storm

The academic block of Binod Bihari Mahato Koylanchal University has been damaged due to the strong storm that came on Saturday night. Due to the storm, two out of three glass doors in the academic block were completely broken, while one glass door was damaged.

University officials took stock of the damage on Sunday morning. During the storm, a big tree was uprooted and fell on the approach road leading to the university. This tree was in the Ambedkar Residential School premises adjacent to the approach road. Due to its fall, a large part of the boundary wall of the school has also been broken. The approach road remained blocked till Sunday afternoon due to falling of trees. The tree was later removed.

Electric poles damaged in a dozen areas, wires broken at many places

A dozen electric poles were damaged in different areas of the city due to storm and rain on Saturday midnight. At many places, power supply was disrupted due to broken electrical wires and tree branches falling on electrical wires.
Due to the strong storm at around 1 am on Saturday night, various equipment of JBVNL got damaged and the power supply to the entire city came to a standstill. After the strong wind and rain stopped, night patrolling was started in various areas by JBVNL.

However, due to damaged equipment and broken electrical wires at many places and other faults, the repair work could not begin at night. Repair work was started on Sunday morning. Electricity was restored in many areas by 11 o’clock in the day. However, even after this, there were power cuts at different times till the evening to repair other electricity related problems in different localities.

13 electric poles damaged by storm

Electric poles were damaged at 13 places in the urban area during the storm on Saturday night. According to JBVNL officials, electric poles were damaged in Purana Bazaar, Manitand, Kusum Vihar, Bhuli, Vishunpur, Babudih, Nawadih, Polytechnic, Gol Building-Baliapur Road, Memco, Kendua, Dhansar and Maadi Godown. In other areas including Telipada, LC Road, Bartand, Barmasia, Bhuda, JC Mallik, Karmik Nagar, Bhuifod Mandir, Hirak Road, Dhaiya, electricity remained disrupted due to tree branches falling on electric wires. By Sunday evening, electrical wires and poles were repaired and electricity supply started in the affected areas.

Complaint of fault in more than 100 fuses and jumpers

From Sunday morning till afternoon, more than a hundred complaints about fuse calls, jumper faults and other complaints were registered in the call center of JBVNL. Work was done to repair the fault from morning till night.
