There has been a decline in electricity consumption in the capital Patna as the winter season has started. According to information received from PESU, electricity consumption in 10 power grids across the city has almost halved. In the summer months, electricity consumption increases to around 700 to 725 MW during peak hours. At the same time, even 350 MW is not left in the months of November-December. PESU officials say that even minor electricity related problems reduce during cold days.

Due to increase in electricity consumption during summers, problems like trips, overloads often occur. He also said that as the cold season increases, electricity consumption will further decrease. The load on 200 KV and 350 KV transformers installed in general areas of the city increases to beyond 150 KV and 240 KV. At the same time, during winter it remains below 100 KV and 150 KV. Every year due to increase in load in summer, power companies have to install new transformers in the areas. The number of electricity consumers in the city is around 6.50 lakh.

The decline in electricity consumption is being recorded since the month of October. In the month of October, electricity consumption had come down from 700 MW to around 450 MW. Even during festival days it increased to around 500 MW. If we talk about entire Bihar, 7000 MW electricity is consumed daily during peak hours during summer. At present, the maximum electricity consumption in the capital is 68 MW from Digha grid and the minimum consumption is about 10 MW from Fatuha grid. According to the information received from PESU, electricity consumption will increase again in the month of March.
