Weather Forecast: There will be rain in North India including Delhi in the beginning of the new year, be prepared for severe cold.

There is a possibility of heavy rain in many areas of the country at the beginning of the new year. India Meteorological Department (imdAccording to ), the new year may start with rain in North India including Delhi. Light to moderate rain may occur in Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir between December 30 and January 2. Apart from this, severe cold may also occur in many parts of the country during this period.

Dense fog forecast in Delhi from 25-28 December

IMD has predicted dense fog from 25 to 28 December. It said that there will be light fog from December 29 to December 30 and the minimum temperature is likely to drop by a few degrees.

Weather likely to remain dry in Rajasthan for next one week

The Meteorological Department has predicted dry weather in the state for the next one week. There is also a possibility of dense fog at isolated places in the northern and eastern parts of the state in the next two-three days and a slight drop in the minimum temperature. Another new western disturbance is expected to become active in the state from December 31.

Bone shivering cold in Kashmir

Kashmir is currently going through ‘Chillai Kalan’, a period of bone-chilling winter. ‘Chillai-Kalan’ is a period of severe winter of 40 days when a cold wave hits the region and the temperature drops to extremely low levels causing water in water bodies including the famous Dal Lake to turn into ice. During this period, there is frequent and heavy snowfall in most parts, especially in the higher reaches. ‘Chillai-Kalan’ starts from 21st December and will end on 31st January. After this, there is a period of 20 days of ‘Chillai-Khurd’ (small cold) and 10 days of ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (mild cold) in Kashmir. Even during that time the cold wave continues.

There is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall here including Tamil Nadu.

Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on 24, 27 and 28 December.

Light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places over Northeast India during the next 3 days. There is also a possibility of hailstorm along with isolated storm in Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

This state is in the grip of dense fog

Dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to persist over isolated areas of Punjab, Haryana and East Uttar Pradesh during 25-27 December and over Rajasthan and North Madhya Pradesh during the morning hours on 25 December.

There is a possibility of a drop of 2-4 degrees Celsius

Northwest and Adjoining Central India: Minimum temperatures are likely to drop by 2-4 degrees Celsius during the next 2 days and no significant change thereafter. Whereas East India: The minimum temperature is likely to drop by about 2°C during the next 2 days and there will be no significant change thereafter.
