Kolkata received 21.8 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rainfall till Saturday. IMD said that due to excessive moisture coming from the Bay of Bengal, there is a possibility of more rainfall in South Bengal till September 23. Due to intermittent rains continuing in the city, there was waterlogging in low-lying areas on Friday and passengers faced inconvenience in commuting. Traffic was also disrupted in many areas due to rain. IMD said that in the next 24 hours, there will be thundershowers over Bankura, East Bardhaman, Hooghly, Howrah, Kolkata, North and South 24 Parganas districts and light to moderate rainfall over Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong and North Dinajpur districts. It is likely to happen.
According to Skymet Weather, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Bihar state, especially in the eastern part, near the foothills, on both Friday and Saturday. The low pressure area over Jharkhand and surrounding areas is moving towards north and north-east. This system is expected to persist for these two days. There is a possibility of extremely heavy rain in cities like Araria, Sitamarhi, Purnia, Katihar, Saharsa, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Madhubani, Supaul, Khagaria, Madhepura etc.
Amid continuous rainfall in many parts of Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ warning of heavy rainfall in seven districts. Heavy rain is expected in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts. IMD sources said that there is a possibility of thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall in the northern districts of the state including Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod during the next several hours.
According to Abhishek Anand, in-charge of the weather center, the low pressure area over Jharkhand and the surrounding areas has become less marked. However, the associated cyclonic circulation is over West Jharkhand and adjoining areas and extends up to 7.6 km above sea level. On September 23 also, there may be heavy rainfall at isolated places in the north-eastern parts of the state (Devghar, Dhanbad, Dumka, Giridih, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur, Sahibganj). Apart from this, there is a possibility of thunder and lightning across the state till September 24. Yellow alert has been issued regarding this. The Meteorological Center has also predicted light to moderate rain in many districts of the state from September 24 to 28.
According to Skymet Weather, moderate to heavy rain is possible over Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, North Chhattisgarh, parts of Madhya Pradesh and North Central Maharashtra during the next 24 hours. Whereas in Northeast India, Odisha, Vidarbha, Telangana, Konkan and Goa, Marathwada, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep and Uttarakhand, there are chances of light to moderate rains along with heavy rains at one or two places.
According to Skymet Weather, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain over East Rajasthan, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. There may be light rain in Western Uttar Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka and Saurashtra and Kutch.
