All schools in 5 districts closed

There has been heavy rain in Erode district of Tamil Nadu. Due to rain, water has entered houses and markets in low-lying residential areas of Erode. Due to which common life has become quite disrupted. Due to heavy rains in some areas of Tamil Nadu, holiday has been declared in all government and private schools in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Theni, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari districts today (November 23), as per the orders of the District Collectors of five districts.

Heavy rain in Kerala also

As heavy rains continue in many parts of Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued an orange alert in two districts of the state. IMD issued orange alert for the day in Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts. The Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for all the districts of the state except Kannur and Kasaragod.

According to the IMD forecast, due to the cyclonic circulation over Tamil Nadu, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning over Kerala during the next five days. There may be heavy rain at different places in the state between 22-24 November.

Puducherry and Karaikal regions received continuous rain in the last 24 hours due to which the government had to declare holiday in schools of the region on Wednesday. Normal life has been affected due to rain and traffic was disrupted due to water logging in low-lying areas.

According to official sources, Puducherry received 5 cm rainfall in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am, while Karaikal received 9 cm rainfall. According to IMD’s Orange Alert, very heavy rainfall ranging from 12 centimeters (cm) to 20 cm may occur, while in Yellow Alert, heavy rainfall is expected between six to 11 cm.
