Cyclonic storm Michong has caused severe devastation in many states in South India. Hurricane Michong hit the South Indian coasts today i.e. Tuesday at a speed of 110 kilometers per hour. Along with this, heavy to very heavy rain occurred in many areas. According to media reports, 13 people died due to rain. While many others have been injured.
Severe cyclonic storm Michong hit the South Andhra Pradesh coast near Bapatla district today i.e. Tuesday between 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm with a maximum speed of 90 to 100 km per hour and moved ahead. It is likely to move northwards and weaken into a cyclonic storm in the next two hours.
At the same time, the weather system formed over the west-central Bay of Bengal, moved northwards at a speed of 11 km per hour near the South Andhra Pradesh coast in the last six hours and hit the Andhra Pradesh coast between 12.30 pm and 2.30 pm. After that he moved forward.
At 2.30 pm it was centered over south coastal Andhra Pradesh, about 15 km south-west of Bapatla and 40 km north-east of Ongole. Michong caused huge devastation in the affected districts of the southern state. Roads were damaged, rivers, canals and ponds overflowed, drowning thousands of acres of crops in the state.
Moderate to heavy rain may continue over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas during the next 24 hours and will reduce thereafter. At the same time, there may be light to moderate rain in some parts of East Telangana and Odisha along with heavy rain at some places.
Light to moderate rain at one or two places with isolated heavy falls may occur over Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Interior Odisha, parts of Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Light rain is possible in interior Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Marathwada, Kerala and South Central Maharashtra. Rain activities are expected to increase in Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura after 24 hours.
NDRF personnel have been deployed on the Bapatla coast in Andhra Pradesh after Cyclone Michong hit the coast. NDRF Commandant Zahid Khan said that 12 NDRF teams are deployed here.
