Kolkata, Vikas Kumar Gupta: of West Bengal Kolkata Custom (Kolkata Custom) team, on the basis of secret information, has arrested six members of the gang in Birati along with gold biscuits and butts worth Rs 4.5 crore which were being brought from Bangaon of North 24 Parganas for supply to various areas of Barabazar of Kolkata. . Out of the six arrested accused, the names of four have been stated as Dipankar Biswas, Abhijeet Biswas, Tapas Das and Abhijeet Das. All four are said to be residents of Bangaon in North 24 Parganas. The fifth accused, Noor Islam Mandal, is said to be a resident of Manigram near Bangaon. The sixth accused, Sanat Sarkar, is a resident of Gaighata in North 24 Parganas. 61 pieces of gold biscuits and butts have been seized from all the 6 members of the gang. The value of the seized gold in the market is said to be around Rs 4.50 crore. On Thursday, when all the six accused were produced by Customs in Bankshall Court, instructions have been given to send them to judicial custody till February 7.
How did the arrest happen?
Custom sources say that they had received news that some gold suppliers were bringing smuggled gold from Bangladesh border from Bangaon to Barabazar area of Kolkata. Only after this information, without any delay the customs team left to arrest him. Three bikes were stopped near Birati on suspicion. When the youth traveling in them were searched, a total of 61 gold biscuits and gold butts were seized from them. They could not show any documents in this regard. After which all the six gold suppliers were arrested. During preliminary interrogation, the accused told that they were bringing it to Barabazar area of Kolkata to supply it as per the demand. It was to be delivered to various agents operating in Barabazar. He was arrested even before this.
Search is going on for active agents in Barabazar
Customs sources said that after interrogating the accused, they are trying to reach their agents active in Barabazar. So that the entire gang involved in supplying smuggled gold can be caught. After taking permission from the court, they are preparing to go to the jail and interrogate the accused.
