WB News: Shobhan Chatterjee reached Chief Minister’s residence for ‘Bhai Fonta’

Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader who left the party after staying in BJP for two years in West Bengal Shobhan Chatterjee Reached Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence here on the occasion of ‘Bhai Fonta’ on Wednesday. Chatterjee, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2019 after differences with the TMC leadership, went to the Chief Minister’s residence in Kalighat area with his close friend Baisakhi Bandopadhyay. Shobhan Chatterjee had left BJP after differences with the party leadership after the 2021 assembly elections. Since then, the former Kolkata mayor has been trying to get closer to the Trinamool Congress and last year even went to the state secretariat Nabanna to meet the Chief Minister.

Mamata Banerjee played an important role in building Chatterjee’s political career.

‘Bhai Fonta’ or ‘Bhai Dooj’ is a festival symbolizing the affection between brothers and sisters. According to TMC sources, Chatterjee is sending a message to the party leadership and wants to return to his former party. Earlier in 2019 too, just two months after joining the BJP, he had reached Banerjee’s residence for ‘Bhai Fonta’. . It is believed that Mamata Banerjee played a key role in shaping Chatterjee’s political career, which like her started in the Youth Congress before rising to the top of the TMC. Following problems in his personal life, in November 2018, Mamata Banerjee had asked Chatterjee to resign from both the posts of minister and Mayor of Kolkata. Apart from Shobhan Chatterjee, several top TMC leaders and ministers had reached Banerjee’s Kalighat residence on the occasion of ‘Bhai Fonta’.

Minister and MLA celebrated Bhai Phota

Burdwan South MLA Khokan Das celebrated Bhai Phota with the infants wandering on the Burdwan platform on Wednesday at Burdwan railway station in East Burdwan district. During this time, new clothes were provided to the helpless and foodless girls living on the platform. The MLA celebrated Bhai Phota with these girls. On the other hand, State Minister Swapan Devnath also celebrated Bhai Phota at Purva Sthali on Wednesday. The minister visited the orphanage and celebrated Bhai Phota with elderly women and girls.
