WB News: Investigating money laundering aspect in teacher appointment scam in West Bengal Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets worth about Rs 230.6 crore of the two accused arrested in the case, Shanti Prasad Sinha and Prasanna Rai. These properties include immovable properties located at different places. According to sources, ED has attached about 96 katha of land in Patharghata, about 117 katha of Sultanpur, about 282 katha of Maheshtala and about 136 katha of land in Newtown and Kolkata among the properties of accused Prasanna Rai, who played the role of middleman in the scam, while Shanti The attached properties of Prasad Sinha include a flat in Kolkata, a residence in East Jadavpur and land at two other places.

The money laundering investigation was initiated by the ED on the basis of two FIRs registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act. The allegations include illegal appointment of assistant teachers in classes 9 and 10 and classes 11 and 12, favoring ineligible candidates and violation of relevant rules. Presented in the court by CBI regarding the said case.

Illegal appointments of 2,081 candidates for teacher posts exposed

The chargesheet revealed illegal appointments of 2,081 candidates for assistant teacher posts. Both Rai and Sinha are currently in judicial custody. ED has already seized assets worth about Rs 135 crore in the teacher appointment scam in the state. That means the total amount of attachment and seizure by ED in this scam is now around Rs 365.6 crore.
