Due to this demonstration, many express trains stopped at many places and passengers had to face a lot of trouble. Railway officials negotiated and tried to remove the protest.
Twenty thousand people used to travel every day from Kerarpada Halt Station.
It is known that there was Nandpur Kerarpada halt station in Jalpaiguri. Local trains were standing at that station. Residents claim that twenty thousand people used to travel through that station. But the work stopped during the Corona period. A lot of time has passed since then. People’s life has gradually become normal. Residents complain that even after Corona has passed, trains do not stop at halt stations. Written requests were made several times but no action was taken. After this the local people decided to demonstrate.
Trains stopped for several hours
The residents of Kerarpara protested by blocking the railway line since Friday morning. As a result, Dhaka-NJP bound Mithali Express and Kolkata bound Superfast got stuck at Haldibari station in Cooch Behar. Darjeeling Mail stops at Jalpaiguri Belakoba station. Due to this, passengers had to face a lot of trouble. Railway officials, police and RPF personnel tried to clear the jam by talking. It is known that Railways has given assurance that work on this will be done soon. Local people say that if stoppage of local trains is not given then they will launch a bigger protest.
