WB News: Collapse during the work of Garia-Airport Metro Project, panic among local people

in Kolkata, West Bengal Airport Metro work is going on to connect Garia, but during the implementation of the project, the footpath of the service road near Kaikhali has partially collapsed. There is panic among the local residents due to this incident. It is noteworthy that where the subsidence took place, there are residential flats and a private school, hence people’s concerns have increased. It has been told that the condition in front of the school gate is so bad that now the main gate is not allowed to be used due to fear of accidents. Students have to enter through another gate. It is alleged that not only the footpath has collapsed, there have also been cracks in the front portion of the residential gate.

It is noteworthy that the work of Garia-Airport Metro Rail has been going on for many years in VIP Road area. Metro station is to be built in Kaikhali above VIP Road. The construction work of the station is going on on the VIP road and its service road leading to the airport and subsidence was seen here only. It is told that there are many residences, shops, offices, banks, car showrooms, cafeterias and private schools along the service road.

People have demanded the intervention of the administration to solve this problem as soon as possible. In this regard, the engineer associated with the project said that there is no need to panic about this. Construction work is going on there for drainage. The problem will be solved as soon as that work is completed. He assured that necessary measures have already been taken for this.
