WB News: It was told by ED in West Bengal that ration distribution scam Assets worth more than Rs 150 crore belonging to former Food Minister Jyotipriya Mallik, businessman Bakibul Rehman alias Bakibur and former Chairman of Bangaon Municipality Shankar Aadhya, arrested in the Ration Distribution Scam, have been attached. All three accused are currently in judicial custody. The ED has said in a statement that the attached properties include 48 immovable properties of people and institutions linked to the accused. These properties include Mallik’s residences in Bolpur and Salt Lake, several other benami properties in the name of his close associates, Kolkata and Rahman’s deposits in various banks include two hotels each in Bengaluru and fixed deposits.

ED made many big revelations

The ED investigation has also revealed that Mallik had allegedly received some of these immovable properties worth more than crores of rupees as ‘gifts’ in the name of his family members or close associates. ED said that the documented value of these attached properties is around Rs 50.47 crore, while their market value is estimated to be much more than Rs 150 crore. A charge sheet was filed by the agency before a Kolkata court in December last year against Mallick, Rehman and a company named NPG Rice Mill.

ED confiscated property worth Rs 230.6 crore
The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is probing the money laundering aspect of the teacher appointment scam in the state, has attached assets worth about Rs 230.6 crore of two accused arrested in the case, Shanti Prasad Sinha and Prasanna Rai. These properties include immovable properties located at different places. According to sources, the ED has attached about 96 katha of land in Patharghata, about 117 katha of Sultanpur, about 282 katha of Maheshtala and about 136 katha of land in Newtown and Kolkata among the properties of accused Prasanna Rai, who played the role of middleman in the scam. The attached properties of Shanti Prasad Sinha include a flat in Kolkata, a residence in East Jadavpur and land at two other places.
